gotta love Coltrane-this is not as manic as Giant Steps, or as "new" sounding as the late stuff....but it!

Bright Size Life
by Pat Metheny ·

No standards or cliches here. A very digestible early Metheny work. Incidentally, a lot of the tunes here can be found in illegal real book 1, some under different titles.

Junior High
by Junior Brown ·

Although I hate to admit it, I like SOME country (and yes, I did at one time play in a country band. or too)....Junior Brown rocks, man. Check out the tongue-in-cheek stereotypical look, the Hendrix influence, and that guit-steel thing.

The Advancing Guitarist
by Mick Goodrick ·

The only problem I have with the book is that it is sometimes a bit too Zen and abstract..although I would recommend everyone buy it and study from it.

Question and Answer
by Pat Metheny ·

The problem that I have with Pat Metheny is that he often sends me into note overload...too many notes, too many ideas. Often, after hearing a Metheny tune, I would not be able to repeat to you any of the thousand ideas he tossed off in his sol...(more)

Sleight of Hand
by Jimmy Bruno ·

A kickin' little trio-Jimy plays so much guitar you never wish there was a horn player or pianist. Check out tracks 3 and 7.

Alone Together
by Jim Hall & Ron Carter ·

Here are 2 masters kicking it old school...or something like that. The recording quality isn't quite perfect (a bit soft at times), but the playing is awesome.

Bing, Bing, Bing
by Charlie Hunter ·

I dig this album....Charlie plays this 8 string custom thing....3 bass strings, and 5 guitar strings. THe guitar strings go through some kind of effects and sound like an organ, so the band sounds like an organ trio.
