Hi all- I am thinking of switching from my apogee duet + laptop recording setup to a standalone digital recorder like the tascam dp-008. I record mainly voice and acoustic guitar, then I add virtual instruments and effects in GarageBand or...(more)

Yeah I actually owned a Red Label FG 180 acoustic at one point thatI loved. I shouldn't have sold it. Yamahas are great guitars.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and got me an el cheapo Yamaha C40, it gets good reviews and is cheap enough anyway if it gets neglected after a while. I don't think it will, though. My other reservation about getting deep into classical ...(more)

In the past six months I've really enjoyed learning a couple of classical pieces. They are more challenging than the type of pop rock stuff I usually play, so there's not that 'instant gratification' of being able to quickly learn a cover so...(more)

Yeah I actually got several 'the music sounded great' comments. It was 100 degrees out that day (outdoor wedding) and I was sweating buckets! Also I was nervous because I had to do several other songs with my wife singing, and she forgot th...(more)

I actually did pretty well. I 'crammed' for a week straight but at the end of the week I was able to play a decent version. I'll probably keep playing it til I get it perfect. Thanks all.

My future sister in law asked me to play Canon in D at her wedding on acoustic guitar. For me it is a fairly difficult piece, but playable if I practice. Unfortunately she only gave me three months to prepare, I agreed anyway thinking that ...(more)

Hi I haven't posted in a while, I have been thinking about my playing and I had a question about what might be a bad habit. My main guitar is an acoustic, and I've noticed that for the past few years it is usually tuned full step down to D ...(more)

That's a ridiculous price, I've seen Red Labels going for 200-300 on eBay recently. They're a great deal at that price.

I'm a big fan of Yamaha acoustics, I think they're really (really) underrated, but great quality, fun to play, really solidly built. You can get some really great deals on them too.

I was watching some live performance clips of Elliott Smith on youtube. He is either in full step down or some type of open tuning. It took him about 10 seconds to go to open C if I recall correctly.

I was very impressed when I saw a performer quickly switch the tuning of his acoustic guitar from full step down to open C by ear, without the aid of an electronic tuner or even a tuning fork. Does one acquire this ability through practice and ...(more)

After a couple of years focusing on playing electric with a pick, I'd like to devote some time to learning how to fingerpick on a steel string acoustic. I've started out with some lessons on basic Travis picking. Are there any other exercis...(more)

A few suggestions from someone who has been in your shoes before: get guitar pro, it helps slow down and loop more difficult songs so they're easier to learn. Pick songs that you love, that seem just beyond your level and keep practicing til yo...(more)

Can anyone recommend a site with some mp3 jam tracks to practice soloing and scales? I'm particularly interested in practicing soloing in minor, melodic minor, and blues scales. Thanks.

I haven't posted in a while. Work and school commitments got to be too much, and then plain old laziness got a hold of me - and basically I haven't practiced guitar in any meaningful way in almost a year. There was a period of about a month...(more)

reduce your writing speed until you burn one successfully, if that doesn't work, use a different type of disk.
