Heh, did this turn into the He Man Woman Haters therapy session or something? Michael, if you search for "Rico's Gruv" on Google it should give you some links to my Soundclick pages and others, but here's the link direct to my Rico's Gruv music...(more)

Thanks for the words of support. I haven't been on here much lately, or even playing much guitar the last few months. Trying to get artwork, mastering, and other finishing CD touches done, plus the day job and family stuff keep me plenty bus...(more)

My second CD as Rico's Gruv "Play Guitar Like A Girl" was released through CDBaby this month. Right now it is on for download, availability should grow as CdBaby gets it out to different places like iTunes and Amazon. Also, I po...(more)

Evaluate why being in a rut bothers you, why do you want to get better or even play? Frankly, lately I'm satisfied just to sit around and pick out grooves and licks and explore ideas. When something sounds like it might work into a tune, I'll ...(more)

The guitars sound great. I'm usually too lazy to try and get a good double. Copying, fx, or other DAW production magic never seems to be the same. I really like the drum sound. It sounds slightly off center with a great acoustic tone and ambi...(more)

Nice production and mix, has a real open, less is more, 70's classic rock vibe to it. Rick

Arrgh... that's one of the things that was really frustrating to me when I was teaching, students who just wanted me to tab out tunes. They can buy a good book or video for that.

The original Marshall amp circuit was almost identical to the 50's Fender Tweed Bassman, and just about every Marshall since then and other amps trying to get "that" sound are still based on that original Fender design. Marshall decided to use ...(more)

"...number one, don't lose the musicality" Very wise advice. I also heard musical phrasing in your playing Cindy, which is always better than it sounding like someone playing a scale, pentatonic or otherwise. What it sounds like is more import...(more)

That explains it very well. The common notes between the major and minor chords help the progression sound more like the more common movements between the I, IV, V chords, and finally resolving back to the I. I also like to use only the double...(more)

I posted yet another blues shuffle backing track in case you don't have enough of them. It's just drums and bass, and there are a couple of glitches and flubbs I may fix and repost, but it's ok to jam with. It is loopable. Rick <div style=...(more)

Man, I still hate playing full bars low on the neck. If it's for some heavy riffin' I'll usually just play the "power 5th" chord using the low E, A, and D strings only. There are some exceptions to get a particular lick or riff, but hopefully ...(more)

I started building amps trying to duplicate what I experienced playing a Dr. Z MAZ 18 at a blues jam. That began a quest to build an amp I could carry in one hand, guitar in the other, and produce good tone loud enough to be heard at the "stupi...(more)

Randy, No, I built the VIB model of the 6M18. If I knew what I know now, I would have done a TMB head I think. I don't have all of them. I sold all but the 6A14HP and my Frankenamp. Oh, I forgot, I also built and sold a Smokin' Joe II Combo...(more)
