Once you get a shape down, all you gotta do is move it around the fingerboard to get different chords. I think you'd be better off learning seven different fingerings for the same chord: seq|6_3|5_3|4_2|4_5|3_5|2_5|1_3|C arpeggio|seq seq|6_3|...(more)

<em>"But is ending on the V enough for you to call it "Mixolydian"? "</em> If V sounds like "home", then yes. That's all you need. The hard part is getting V to sound like home in this world of major scale tyranny.

<em>"If they don't get it at that point, they may go on to believe that because G mixolydian will fit any G triad - "hey, I can apply this mode to any G chord I see". Sure you can - and it will make you play wrong notes, if the G is in the key o...(more)

A song doesn't have to use dom7 for I and and min for v to be Mixolydian. Probably the most common Mixolydian progression used is a I IV V that lands on the V. China Grove (Doobie Bros) and Rock 'N Me (Steve Miller Band) come immediately to mi...(more)

This book won't teach you a lot about chord progressions. It's basically a comprehensive chord dictionary... showing many possible fingerings for most chords you're liable to run into while playing Jazz.

<em>"Any one seen him live?"</em> Not exactly... but I've got some footage of him playing with Chick Corea that's quite enjoyable.

If it's true that LVB was asked such a question and answered as described, I would imagine he meant, "That's a really stupid question."

CAGED (or any other "system") shouldn't be viewed as an end unto itself. It's a means to get your feet under you. The restrictions you're implying are completely arbitrary. Any way you chop up the fingerboard for learning, the goal is to event...(more)

It's best to learn modes as a set of intervals and/or pitches arranged around a given tonic rather than associating modes with specific finger patterns. Finger patterns are very useful on the guitar, but it's very easy to trip yourself up by th...(more)

I don't remember exactly what did for each track... there are 7 or 8 tracks piled up there... but everything was different inversions/voicings of Am and Bm alternating back and forth: cho|x|0|7|5|0|0|Am9|cho cho|x|0|9|7|0|0|Bm11/A|cho cho|x|x|...(more)

Aluminum foil is cheap and effective. The hardest part is getting it to stick to the sides of the cavities. I've used various glue stick type products with varying success. You can also buy sheilding tape... but it seems pretty expensive to me...(more)
