i'd go straight to bass if that's what you want to learn. I learned bass before I ever picked up a guitar. Guitar-playing knowledge can be helpful, but by no means essential, to playing bass.

I highly reccomend Rev. Gary Davis Jr. songs. He's a rag-time bluesman who has many good acoustic instrumentals.

My band ranges from 17-27. Again the youngest memeber (our bass drummer) seems to have the most talent. We all have similar music tastes and interests so the slight difference in ages never has caused conflict.

the Danelectro Honeytone (N10) and the Dano eStudio are both nice mini-amps. Honeytone gives a nice overdrive effect. The eStudio has a nice echo effect built into it. I like them both, there simple and give nice sound.

Any weight (like a c-clamp) attached to the light end of an instument will add sustain. I also use a C-clamp.
