The books are extremely well written and work well when combined with other material. My music teacher used a 3-prong approach: 1) Mel Bay for introduction to techniques, etc. 2) Alfred method for upper fret techniques, etc. 3) Hand charted...(more)

LOL, Randy I started playing in 1958 or so using the Mel Bay Method and it was incredibly square even then! Thankfully it was not the only source that my guitar teacher was using.

from wikianswers: "Pepe's girlfriends name is Penelope Pussycat. For many years, Penelope remained a nameless character, simply referred to as "the black cat". She was eventually given a name in the 1954 short, "The Cat's Bah", where her master...(more)

+1, Randy. They were both fine individuals. I got to work with Rex and he was a gas! We worked in a "stuff-shirt" populated medical university hospital and he would show up for work in rock and roll checkered shoes, what a breath of fresh air. ...(more)

Yes, they have a drop-in P-90 "style" replacement. The set I tried was more like a strat pickup inside than a P-90, but gets you "in the ball park". The GFS Pup's are a lot less expensive than Gibson or SD sets, too, if memory serves me correct...(more)

Hi Mike. That question is awfully open ended as the actual amp circuits can affect the tone as much or more than the tubes themselves. Both can provide a more "British" sound than 6V6 or 6L6 family amps, but the main difference is that the EL3...(more)

Randy and Warren, Thank you so very much for the compliment, I really love photography. I guess what I'm trying to say is that while I won't claim that digital cameras are better than film in all things, the technology is getting me very...(more)

I was around in those days as well, my favorite was "Vaya con Dios". Les was the motivating factor for me to buy my first (reel to reel machine) and start on my lifelong hobby recording. As a funny side note, a misunderstanding (by my mom) conc...(more)

BTW I'm a midi dufus, too. I never even bought the controller. But the midi picup was a piezo/bridge pickup that was capable of being mixed with the regular pickups. The bridge pickup really sounded like an acoustic guitar. just a factoid,...(more)
