Thanks Trevor, I can't say no to that! My budget is $200-300. I am definitely getting something but it has to improve both activities. Therefore, some sort of USB audio interface for guitar is out.

I am going to get a new sound card soon. After about a year away from the guitar, I've starting playing again and am having loads of fun. I want to record music again and not have to fight with high background noise. Also, a *decent* recordin...(more)

I tried to see if reverb was turned on in my Soundcard environemntal settings and it was off. I don't think reverb is turned on by default in CoolEdit but I'll have to check that.

I'm going from SM57-->preamp-->Soundcard. I'm just trying to record sound effects for a mini movie, ice cubes clinking in a glass, that kind of stuff. My wife will get a kick out of the blanket but I'll give it a try.

I am tying to record some sounds on my computer (not guitar) and I'm getting more reverb than I'd like. Are there simpe ways in which I can reduce the amount of reverb?

I'm a big fan of the cure. I mean painful urination is no fun...... oh wait. The Cure. Ahh.. Just a little too 'lipstick' for my tastes.

I am thinking about rebuilding my computer and I'm considering getting a recording oriented (low end) sound card. My question is, should I bother? My favorite past times are guitar and gaming and I'll need something adequate for both. Are th...(more)

You can buy them at target or walmart. I have one that I switch off with a regular toothbrush. IT works pretty well, but not in the morning IMHO. I prefer to use it at night. And you don't really brush with it. You just sort of set it on yo...(more)

best album, the box set :) best song?!?!?! jeez. Umm, Over the Hills and Far Away. I (try) to play a lot of zep, but I always come back to that song. I just love the contrast of the acoustic with the crunch of the electric.

C.C. Deville baby! Long live Poison!!!!!!!! No wait, Kurt Cobain! lol I'm going to have to go with Jimmy Page. While maybe not most gifted technically, I do believe him to be up there in improvisation. Plus to me, a great solo makes the ...(more)

Personally I never understand why one would purposely start out to be so limited in their thinking. IMHO, a guitar sounds best when in skilled, talented hands to be sure; however, a painter, talented or ameteur, doesn't say "I'm only going to ...(more)

I have a Dunlop 535Q Wah and sometimes I get this ugly sound. I hear it sometimes when the pedal is rocked all the way back (front of pedal is up) and I call it "bottoming out". I used to get the same sound out of my BOSS GT-3 under the same c...(more)

Sometimes you can stow a guitar in the coat rack closet if a lot of people don't put their coats there. Depends on the flight. Once I flew with my beater acoustic and the flight attendant was very cool and bascially said she'd make sure it m...(more)

http://www.ebaumsworld.com/mechanic.html This is an audio prank on a woman about repairs that need to be done on her car. Not exactly a "rookie" joke, but still funny regardless of which sex the joke is being pulled on.

If you want to use a mic but don't want to spend a bunch, try the Shure SM57. Apparently they are/were an industry standard. You can get them on e-bay for next to nothing or you can get them new for about $70
