Ah...very lovely Paul.
the D note here is functioning as the b9 in a C#7b9.
nicely done sir.
just to recap, we have not seen the melody note used as a 4th,
b5, #5, 6th/13th, or major 7th.
this is also a way to share/learn new voicings peop...(more)

Greetings All, and happy holidays!
In what has become sort of an annual ritual for me since I first
came to WN, I usually visit around this time of year and post an
original arrangement of a christmas song.
However, as many of you know, WN r...(more)

One of my fav chords for sure....
Here the D note is fuctioning as a 3rd.
to sum up to this point, a D note has been used as a root, 3rd,
b3,
5th, b7, and 9th.

An Ol' Timer! haha...nice to see you Sandra!
Again, I am going to nit pick here...since your single chord is not
part of a functional progression, IMO you should name it more
literally as compared to it's root note, so in this case I would

Nice...the D note is the 9th in a functional C9/G.
However, considering that we are dealing with a single chord, not a
harmonic, functional progression, it would have been more
appropriate IMO to call your chord Gmin6, which, incidently, was ...(more)

All good Drew...D functioning as the b7 in an E7.
E7 is just always a goody, ya know?
Another suggestion to posters...please analyze the D note in your
chord and tell use what chord tone it functions as.

Nice Andrew...it would be great when this thread is done to see the
D note used as every possible chord tone, and considering that one
of those must be a root, it's nice that you voiced the chord with the
3rd in the bass to make it more inter...(more)

NIce Jeff.
Although it is not absolutely required, it would be nice to keep
the
melody note as the highest voice.
Nice offering...the D melody note is functioning as the b7 in the
Em7 chord (E-G-B-D).
Here is a nice variation on that voici...(more)

Hi Drew,
You seem to have offered up a dyad as opposed to a chord that
is made up of at least three notes...care to offer a name for your
dyad?
I suppose it would be beneficial to recommend that everyone
provide a name for their chord, and ...(more)

It's been a long time since I have posted anything here at WN,
and my my how the times change! Many of the old names are
gone, and replaced with many new ones, including some
saboteurs, eh?
In a memorial to the Theory forum, which used to be...(more)

nope...no typos Jon! these are the published chord shapes and
names for the tune...I also think they are poorly named, but I
tend to think they choose these chords names to reflect function
more than anything. Em(maj9) is a much better name f...(more)

Exactly right Tim...thanks for the correction.

With all of these chord symbols, it may help to identify the basic
chord sound, especially if you are trying to understand the
chords harmonic function. If the symbol contains a chord
followed by interval numbers like in Em6/9, the basic chor...(more)

Not sure about that type of magnet, but if it sounds good to you
I wouldn't get too caught up in it. I have Celestion blues in my
2x12 cabinet and they are incredible....however, they are low
wattage speakers and VERY expensive. Weber makes a...(more)

Matching the impedence rating on your amps speaker output is
very important...make sure that if the speaker out is labeled "8
ohms" that the speaker you use is 8 ohms. An impedence
mismatch can lead to amplifier damage...it won't be running
