There used to be 6. With the advent of the new Composer, a whole slew of string instrument sounds are now available, primarily guitar, bass, sitar, and banjo.

Well, that tuning, you can definitely do, and the banjo is MIDI channel 106. Maybe I should add it to the patch options. I find it incredible that the MIDI powers that be created dedicated patches for fret noise (121) and a ringing telephone (...(more)

Oddly, the 5-string banjo is the one instrument that's tough to replicate in the Composer because of the drone string that only covers from the 4th fret on. Hmm ... I'll have to think about that.

I am still constantly amazed how much street cred Aerosmith managed to maintain after going so commercial in the 90s, and since, with Joe Perry being the sideman du jour at every music celeb event, and Steven as an Idol judge. Their first four ...(more)

You may remember the Composer -- it was made of brittle Shockwave technology and choked and sputtered while simultaneously bending to your will in making cool riffs from which we all learned in the multitude of lessons posted here. It has now b...(more)

I've been knee-deep in rebuilding the new Composer, and since there hasn't been any spam activity in that forum, it'll probably stay in the short term, but on an extremely short leash -- like the length of a 32nd note ...

After looking at this previous segment: http://www.wholenote.com/n966--Video-David-Lee-Roth-Interviews-Eddie-and-Alex-Van-Halen-Part-4 It seems the defining trait of Eddie's teens was modding and jerry-rigging everything -- either out of neces...(more)

The authoritative-yet-hip British accent doesn't hurt either. Makes me want to break out my old Boss Chorus pedal (CH-3?) -- the one that after a decade of abuse, would only work if I gave it a good flat slam against a hard surface -- similar t...(more)

Ah ... this is very good catch. I had a 'less than' sign next to 40 instead of less than or equals to, so that's why it was capped at 39. I guess I capped the Groove Builder at 40 mms because there becomes a certain point at which you can't re...(more)

Hi Reid, In general, music playback can fail if too much data is being asked for. In some browsers, if you ask for a 32-bar groove to loop 16 times, it might not play because whatever helper app your browser uses to play MIDI can't handle that ...(more)

It seems like whenever big chains have issues, they fire their CEO, close stores, and tighten their belt, so I'm sure they'll be OK. However, the MI industry has undergone some consolidation the past few years, and I wouldn't be surprised if al...(more)

Hi Mike, This was a good catch. Try it now and let me know if it works. I think I found the offending code that prevented it from working in certain versions of IE.

Hey JC, I had some free time during the early part of this year, so I put in a new foundation and changed the carpeting. If members start to find it useful, I'll add in a bunch of new functionality that's more in line with the current state of...(more)
