You need to read up on how it's done, and what effect you are really looking for. Tall frets are really a plus, assuming they're all level. And dressing the frets is just part of a job that will include: adjusting the truss rod, setting the nut ...(more)

Melinda- Yes it is...you will need to have a new nut made, and the saddle angle will have to be reversed. A Fender style bridge is the easiest to accomplish this on....a Gibson style tunomatic will have to have the bridge support posts moved and...(more)

On some of these amps there's a volume control that pulls out, switching channels. The footswitches are commonly available, too...

I use Sperzels on almost all of the guitars I build....at least 50 sets so far. Bob does a custom open back set for me of the non-locking variety. They are well made, smooth, and durable.

Other than taking a parent with you to the music shop, you may want to consider purchasing a video that shows you how to set up your guitars. Some of the best education funds you'll ever spend. Then you'll KNOW how to communicate what you are lo...(more)

"correct method" 1. Drill the holes in the neck to 1/64" small than the next largest dowell that will fit...typically a 3/16" dowell. You bit should measure about 0.172"(11/64"). 2. Scribe a glue relief channel in the dowell. 3. Use a tooth...(more)

The toggle on a LP is open, so you have pretty easy access to it. You may want to try the spray cleaner first...but I've found that folding a piece of 600 grit sandpaper and pulling it between the contacts works very well. Just make sure the c...(more)

Most factories will use a ball end mill on a CNC router, run by a sophisticated cutting program(such as AutoCAD). PRS started out using a large diameter "ogee" bit on VERY large automated router...eventually went to the CNC operation as it's eas...(more)

The only "successful" fretless guitars I have seen use classical strings. Quick decay, but can sound very good with the proper left hand technique.

"Am I stupid for wanting to do this? Am I going to ruin my guitar?" No and not unless you're a complete klutz "Also, does the type of soldering gun (wattage) matter? I read somewhere you should use higher powered ones, like 40 W." I use a 30 ...(more)

Regarding the B&B, we had always planned to sell it...a purely investment decision. Branson is a good town...to visit. There's a lot of music there, but not much of it appealled to me; mostly retread Top 40 country or over-the-hill pop(of course...(more)

The last six months have been so busy...building guitars, and moving from Branson back to our "hometown" of Lawrence, KS. We're finally settled in the new house, and I just got heat in the shop yesterday. Just uploaded a recent guitar photo to...(more)

A setup professional will usually take material off the bottom of the screws to bring the tops down to just about level with the saddles when the guitar is set up to your playing style. This is the "correct" best solution. You can also find thos...(more)

Most Ovations are set up with a mortise/tenon AND a bolt...much like the old Mossmans or the more modern Collings, except they use two bolts(actually lag screws). To remove the neck, first remove the bolt and see if there is any resulting "play"...(more)
