Starting Over
I first tried to learn to play guitar at about 12. My parents bought me a $10 Kay and I struggled with it for a while, before breaking my arm badly at the elbow, which took a couple of years to heal correctly. The next time was when I was in my later teens. I joined a singing group that was looking for a new lead guitarist. I went out and bought a Fender Strat and started taking lessons and everything and trying to learn the leads for the group’s songs. One day, while lifting the equipment trailer onto the hitch, everybody else let go and I set it down by myself – and destroyed my back. I couldn’t play sitting or standing for a very long time. It seemed like someone was trying to tell me something. I kept a guitar around for a while, but it became more of a decoration than an instrument and finally it went to pay bills. Now, decades later, I decided to try again and it has pretty much been starting over again from scratch. Not much time to devote to it, but a great group of people here to share my trials and tribulations with. Maybe the third time will be the charm.

My Music
I love and listen to a variety of music from classical to bluegrass, and I like almost any kind of instrumental music, especially if it includes guitar. I list my focus as metal, because I have always found it a catharsis to crank up the amp till it howls in pain and play it as hard and dark as possible. People don’t usually associate metal with someone my age, but I got into it as it was being born in the late 60’s and although it has changed a lot over the years (as have I), I still don't think that any other music can convey powerful emotions the way metal can (when it's played well). To me, there's nothing better than a cool blues lick dipped in molten metal!

Musical Influences
• The early masters: Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Jimi Hendrix, Richie Blackmore...
• 80's metal: Judas Priest, Metallica, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Iron Cross...
• I am discovering new bands and new ideas all the time
  Favorite Recordings
• Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath - Best example of "Blues dipped in Molten Metal"
• Led Zeppelin IV - Hard to pick a favorite, but this is definitely a landmark
• Queensryche: Rage for Order - Again, a hard pick, and too many more to mention
