I coulda been a contenda
OK, I'm closing in on 50, got a wife and four kids, and I've playing over a third of a century.

In the past, I've made considerable sums of cash by playing the guitar or bass, but have never made a living that way, So I consider that semi-professional. I'm pretty much a musical omnivore, and likely to throw into my playing all sorts of strange and inappropriate influences at any given moment. This keeps me entertained, but limits my appeal to the average cover band, so I'm not currently playing with anyone ;-) I live in about the center of the contiguous 48 United States, so if any of you are passing through, stop by and we'll jam :-)

Current Gear
  • Fender Stratocaster (made in Japan vintage 60s style) With Bill Lawrence L280S pickups and GFS two pivot bridge.
  • Epiphone DOT with Burstbucker Pro V pickups.
  • '90s vintage Hondo Lazer with Bill Lawrence L90 installed.
  • Taylor 410 (mahogany bodied dreadnought acoustic)
  • Ventura 12-string dreadnought (this one actually belongs to my wife and is in need of some repair, but but even if we don't repair it, she'll never part with it. sorry Rex)
  • Alvarez 12 string dreadnaught (recently bought to replace the Ventura in her hands, if not her heart)
  • Dana nylon string (my first guitar :) also in need of repair, also one that Medtar will never get. sorry again Rex)
  • Univox High Flyer (Mosrite copy) bass guitar (when it's touched right it makes a more beautiful sound than you would imagine a cheap short-scale bass could possibly make)
  • Peavey fretless bass (for when I feel like some Jaco inspired funk/jazz)
  • Carvin Vintage 33 guitar amp (I'm liking it less and less as time goes on)
  • Hartke B90 bass amp. (not a great amp, but it's what I have :-/)
  • Yamaha DG Stomp preamp/effects modeler (not as many bells and whistles as some of the current ones out there, but still among the best sounding. currently only using for delay, reverb and modulate effects)
  • Ernie Ball volume pedal (where'd I be without it?)
Musical Influences
• Pretty much everyone. I'm constantly astonished by sudden realizations that what I've just played was influenced by something
• I haven't heard in twenty years or so, but just came out as naturally as if I just heard it yesterday.
