Jazz Guy

Welcome to my world... (Bio)

Thanks for stopping by! I live in the Boston area. I'm always interested in hooking up with other musicians. Being older (I'm in my 40's), I'm a lot less self conscious than I used to be about playing music these days. I started playing when I was 16 or so, took a decade off when I was 30 or so, and have been back into it with a passion the last five years or so. I play with a few other folks (jazz standards primarily). My dream is to get a weekend gig in a sleazy bar and play my way through the Real Book in a trio or quartet setting.

My Latest Quest

I'm interested in jazz and especially archtops, but my latest quest has been to understand "melody". Having learned most of the scales used by jazz guys (major, melodic minor, harmonic minor, etc.), I found that I was really at the beginning of this musical journey. From here, it involves how to employ these scales, intervals, guide tones, motives, and of course, trying to figure out what made all those "legend" guys sound like they did.
