My Background
Musically, I have been playing something since I was about 4. Started with classical piano training and after 10 years of that I had had enough! Didn't get into guitar until college when I realized you couldn't keep a piano in a dorm room. Borrowed my roommates Ibanez acoustic with action so high you couldn't play barre chords on it. My guitar playing coincided with me rediscovering the Beatles. Then, one day, I went into a guitar store, plugged in an electric, cranked the distortion and played "Sunshine of Your Love"...needless to say I bought the guitar and an amp right then and there. So, I have been playing now for about four years. Took lessons a couple of times but they haven't been able to keep my interest. I think that is cause I am used to a regimented classical piano and guitar teachers are a lot less uptight!
Likes, Influences, etc.
I was in the cd store one day and I saw in the bargin bin for $8.99 a copy of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. Never really listened to the blues before but I remember seeing this album in my dad's record collection. One listen of EC doing Freddie King's HideAway and I was hooked. That was the first of about 400 blues albums I have now. My favorite players are Peter Green, Stevie Ray, Freddie/Albert/BB King, and Buddy Guy. Also listen to Magic Sam and Otis Rush a lot too and Clapton of course. Blues is really my obsession. That and early rock n roll. Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and onto the 60's Stones, Beatles, Zepplin stuff. My other favorite bands are U2, the Cars, Radiohead, Steely Dan and the Clash. Don't really like a lot of the current stuff out but I guess I just haven't gotten into it yet. But, it all comes back to the blues for me though.
