Howdy. I have been playing guitar for quite some time, about 15 years or so, and I still can't play like I want to. I have recently decided that I stink at guitar because I don't practice like I should. My playing ability has gone to hell as I am now trying to undo years of bad playing habits. My favorite kind of music is Death Metal, though I hate calling it that. Bands like Meshuggah, In Flames, Darkane, Soilwork, Gardenian, The Haunted, etc.. are my inspiration. As an old dude I still haven't lost my appreciation for the sounds of crushing guitar work.
Warning!!! Don't let this happen to you.
Sadly enough, I had lame teachers when I started out. They let me continue playing with bad habits. Don't let this happen to you. I am now in the process of re-teaching myself how to play correctly. It is extremely difficult to undo years of bad habits. But I will get there. My goal is to be able to shred, without any tension or obvious effort, at 160bpm. I know I will make it. The forums at this site are incredibly informative and useful for any level of player that desires to perfect his/her/it's art.
