Personal Statement

I believe that a strong background in fundamental technique and theory will create a musician who can eventually teach themselves. I am not a 'lick of the week' type teacher and expect my students to practice. Many great players have taught themselves extraordinary things in absence of any instruction. I prefer giving a person a leg-up rather than becoming a crutch. You could say I come from the 'Teach a person to fish and they will never go hungry' philosophy.

Musical Influences Uncle was a horn player who played with some big names in jazz. I like Garcia, Georges, Herring, Howe and others who can mix up a number of musical styles to create a voice of their own.
Performing Experience Have performed with a variety of acts from a C+W band to the latest being a R+B/Reggae group with members of the Jackson family. I am a schoolteacher right now and am sort of a goto guy in our area. Interested in becoming an active performer soon.
Education & Training Began playing at age 12. Degree in music from Valparaiso University. 18 years professional teaching and performance. I teach musicianship and self-reliance. You must learn to teach yourself or you will never be independent.
