I like to change my teaching style to fit each student. My average student will learn to read tablature and rhythms (standard notation is optional), learn theory when appropriate, learn to solo/improvise, etc. I also enjoy teaching songwriting/composition. Except under special circumstances, I will only transcribe songs during lessons. However, I prefer to give my students the tools they need to be able to learn songs on their own whether through sheet music or by ear. Students who are serious about the guitar (even if they are only playing it as a hobby) will do well with me. Students who only want to learn a few rock songs will not. I also take on short-term students (those who need to prep for music school entrance tests, school band auditions, jazz band try-outs, etc.). I will also teach basic voice and piano to guitarists and drummers who are interested.
