Personal Statement

I took private lessons for two years and attended a summer camp which basically consisted of a week of 5 hours of guitar lessons a day, so I know what gets boring fast and what has really helped me out. I usually start with a short explanation of the physics of the instrument, followed by tuning the guitar, and the most basic chords and some easy songs to work on with them. That's the first lesson...I then continue to show the student new chords and new songs that incorporate them, so they're familiar with the usage. Soon I get into basic 12 bar blues forms, and basic rock song forms, then expand into more advanced jazz and progressive rock progressions. I teach the modes fairly early on because I consider them the foundation of music theory.
