Rating: My overall opinion is this:
It DOES work for ME, I LIKE the Phase 90 pedal, and use it often. It can enhance or color a nice lead or rhythm part of a song, and can be a nice device to help you be more creative. The sounds it produces are very nice & warm. It's a good reproduction of the old Phase 90. I must admit, the input & output jacks are extremely tight & very strong!
However, from what I understand, Jim Dunlop USA is a bit of a cruddy company to deal with. So, if you have any problems or need some parts, don't expect tons of help from them. |

Sound Quality:
Sounds great for any Van Halen song, or any other song you want to add some dimention or "color" to. Also used by Randy Rhoads.
One effect, suited for any kind of music. A bit more subtle than a flanger. Not as "whoooshy". :)
I play mostly metal, rock & blues.
Currently using USA American Deluxe Strats, 1980's Kramer, running thru a Laney GH50L head, and a Marshall 1960A 4x12 cab, and various pedals & effects.
I like the fact that it's not as "in your face" as your typical flanger. |

Ease of Use:
You'd have to have the IQ of "Toe Scum" not to figure this pedal out. |

Durability:
Durability....is questionable. After Jim Dunlop took over MXR, their quality has suffered a bit. HOWEVER, the overall heavy steel construction of these pedals is great, but I already own another BRAND NEW MXR Dyna Comp which sometimes gives me trouble whenever I step on the switch. As far as being physically durable...Yeah, they're built well on the outside, but not sure about the inside components. I'd be willing to bet 100 to 1 that the stupid footswitch is actually soldered directly to the PC Board. If that's the case, then, it could have been built better.
By the way, Mr. Dunlop (If you happen to read this)....Thanks for the stupid Wah-Pedal instructions that came with the DYNA-COMP! |
