Danelectro French Toast Octave Distortion

Single-Effect Pedal
Maker:  Danelectro
Description:  A disgusting-looking pedal in the color I hate most.. aquatic green (yeck). Incredibly nice fuzzy/buzzy sound (with an EQualizer switch to get that gritty sound some LOVE).

Rating:
I chose this one because it's beefy, gritty, dirty, and it's sweet. I'd probably buy this.. or a multi-effect programmable (ie - DigiTechs). This effect needs a power-light damnit! The best aspect - I love the distortion sound. The worst - the color, it's the most disgusting form of green.. no power light either! This is Danelectro's recreation of a 70's tone pedal.
Model Year: 1999
Price: $49 (new)
Where Obtained: Local Music Store
Features:
[Volume] Level knob, Distortion knob, Octave Switch, and Equalizer knob. Can be powered by a 9-volt (300 mA, center negative) AC or a 1x9 Volt 006P Battery. I wish it had a different color (aquatic green.. that's what my old nasty smelling bathroom's color was.. disgusting). And also that little red light that comes standard with most Danelectros.. isn't on this one (wtf?). So you'll need to listen for the distortion to end when you switch it off.. make sure it's somewhere where no-one will step.. and unplug.. yeck.
Sound Quality:
I use a Squier Affinity Strat (soon with an Epiphone Les Paul Classic) and a Frontman 15 amplifier. This pedal is the best pedal Danelectro makes for punk (Grilled Cheese works okay, but this gives you more variety!!!). In fact.. I only use this effect for beefy-ass punk.. I mean real punk too (not emo, ska, and pop-punk). Great beautiful sound.. such a good sound.. of course it's noisy.. but in a good way.. no static. It's better than Grilled Cheese.
Ease of Use:
Not programmable at all. There can be quite an amount of fiddling. Here's a setting I like: Level- 3/4ths of the way around.. nice and loud. Dist. - 1/4 of the way around, just right. Octave - Switched upwards. Equalizer - This you can play with depending on how gritty you want the sound. Now get stompin (when you need to)! It's fairly easy.. it's more complicated than the other Danelectro single-effects pedals.. but it's pretty self-explanatory.
Durability:
I'd use it live! Yes! It's a great distortion! Danelectro isn't KNOWN at all to me.. I don't even know them. I didn't even HEAR of them until I tried out the effect at the music store. It's.. medium-duty.. yeah.. medium.
