I looked at other 7 strings by Ibanez and I own another RG Ibanez 7 string. The Universe is definitely superior, in terms of quality and finish. Aside from the tremelo mod I did, it doesn't need improving. The tone is so solid and the playability is great. It is my number one guitar.

This is the most playable guitar I own. Upper fret access gets a little tight compared to the RG 7 Strings, but is doable. The neck is very comfortable in the hands and lightning fast.I made one modification: I fitted a Floyd Rose tremelo arm to is because it has the collet nut so you can adjust the arm tension. The ibanez system is not very flexible because you put either one or two plastic bushes on the shaft and this controls the tension. But the plastic bit wear out and are hard to get- you have to order them specially. With the Floyd arm, it's fantastic.
I play it through a Marshall JMP 1 preamp and Marshall 9200, stereo power amp and 2 x 12 speaker cab (sometimes in stereo) I also run it through a behringer V-ampire combo and various effects units when recording. It sounds the same regardless of what I play it through. Very deep strong tone. Nice balance accross registers.
Well, It's 13 years old and is as solid as a rock. Aprt from a little paint fade on the black hardware, no wear problems. The adjustment is very stable too. Only needs a tweak every couple of years.
