The album is good, but definitely it will not knock their previous work out of my top DT album ranking. I saw on the bonus material that it took them 3 weeks to write the album. Whats the rush!?!
Maybe because of this short writing period the songs dont evolve as smoothly and with those precise mood changes that make Dream Theatre my favourite band.
Nonetheless the album is good. I went to see them in concert in Madrid on the Train of Thought tour this year and it was absolutely mind blowing.
You could tell the fans love their previous work as they reacted to old songs in a much more passionate way that to the new songs they played. Erotomania and Metropolis were definitely crowd pleasers. From the new album I could say that As I am is the best song.
Dream Theatres fans are the kind that buy all their work to get to really understand the band and so I recommend you get this one to. Lets hope that whatever is on the works for the band delivers a more sophisticated production and composition.
