In this cd Ruben Romero attempts to musically illustrate what it must have been like to celebrate Christmas at an 18th century mission in the southwestern part of the US. (A mission was a church built by explorers moving north from Mexico. It provided the center of the community in all aspects of life.) Selections are: Fiesta Navidad, Joy to the World, What Child is This, Los Peces, Adeste Fideles, O Holy Night, Somos Novios, Christmas at the Mission, La Golondrina, Besame Mucho, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Do You Hear What I Hear, El Cant dels Ocell, Yuletide Passion, Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Angelic Strings, The March of the Angels. The primary instruments are Ruben Romero's Flamenco guitar and Carolyn Muller's steel string guitar, but there is a wide range of support instruments and the results are enchanting. My personal favorites are Silent Night and El Cant Dels Ocell (The Carol of the Birds). This rendition is an especially haunting version of this moving carol. If you are tired of the same old Christmas music being played from October to December, get a copy of this cd. This music will transport you to another place and another time, and your friends will marvel at your astute musical taste. Ruben Romero is a master Guitarist well known in Texas and New Mexico.
