I looked at Fender and Gibson. I love strat, but the Stratocaster did not seem to extend beyond the classic rock genre. I have always considered Gibson guitars like anchors on a boat. They seem to hang heavy on my neck and shoulders. I love the way this looks and feels. It is a comfortable fit.
Model Year: 2002
Price: $400.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Instrumental Music
Features:
I love the look of the quilted maple top, mahogany body. It has a fast maple & rosewood neck. My friend has an Ibee 7-string and I really liked the sound and the way it played, so I opted for a 6-string 22-fret version. It has a combo pickup switch and has 3 pickups in an S/S/H configuration. It's a double-cutaway.
Playability:
This instrument has great action,...allows for fast runs and snappy intricacy. It is really very versatile, allowing me to play shredlike, (c'mon..."shredlike"?) and jazzy stuff. Santana riffs come out nice on this setup.
Sound Quality:
I have not played it through a good amp yet. I play it through a PA system and through a Kustom practice amp. I can switch from style to style fairly easily, however, I felt compelled to get another guitar because I believe that this is a rock guitar. I play it through a Digipro
Durability:
Seems sturdy enough. We don't have climate changes here. It stays in tune once it is there, but actually goes through strings fairly quickly. Not as bad as a Martin, though. The rest of the hardware does not appear to be lacking in quality.
