I looked at several solid state mixers - some with effecs, some without effects. I chose this one because I had been looking at it for years, and it was just waiting for me to purchase it.
Model Year: 2000
Price: $350.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Local Music Store
Features:
The VM-3100 has sliders, knobs, blinking lights that change colors... a really useably display, inputs and outputs... oh yeah... an on/off switch too. This is useful for either a recording studio or mixing your band on stage. I use this as my primaary interface in front of my digital recorder. Everything is plugged into it - my amp, mix, footbards, outboard effects, tabletop effect units... I can't think of anything I would like to add at this moment.
Sound Quality:
The sound quality is awesome... very transparent and clear.
Ease of Use:
Not very easy to use... you can route any input to any fader - select which outputs you want your sound to go to - setting effects can be complex as well... I was able to figure out most of it by going to the website - while I'm waiting for my manual from Roland... It only took me 2 hours to re-wire my studio so it must not be THAT bad...
Durability:
It's digital... If I had rack wings, I would probably connect it and use it live... but now, it just sits on my desk top.... The frame is metal - so the construction looks good.
