Question and Answer

Pat Metheny
(1990) Geffen #24293-2
Personnel:  Pat Metheny (g), Dave Holland (b), Roy Haynes (d)
Description:  This is a straight-ahead type of trio record from Pat with very little effects and bells and whistles. Recorded in just one day, it captures some of the essence of Pat's playing in the early 90's.

Rating:
This was one of the records that completely changed my life. To really hear Pat stretch out both on some standard tunes (All The Things You Are, Solar, Old Folks) and on his own tunes in a trio setting with few effects and an incredible rhythm section is a real treat. If you're just starting to get your playing over changes down, and you're looking for some fresh ideas to play over standards, this recording has them by the truckload. I'd consider it essential transcribing material both for the lines and his comping.
