This is a great transcription / instructional book suited to those players who strive to emulate Jimi Hendrix. The book presents twelve of Hendrix's greatest songs in an easy to read format of standard notation and tab.

The companion CD is a huge bonus. It features a full band performing the songs in segments, which makes it easier to learn. Certain parts that are most complex and/or difficult, such as solos, are performed slowly.

This book is highly recommended.

Great book/cd! As the previous review said, this is more of a transcription book/cd than an instructional book/cd, but for me, it's much easier to learn from this cd than from the original Hendrix cd. All of the transcriptions are played on the cd with no vocals, and they're also played at regular speed and slow speed.

It is instructional as well as a transcription book, the balance tends to go to transcription however. Although some comments about scales and techniques are present, most space in the book is dedicated to the actual transcriptions.

I find playing hendrix songs in general is good for improving playing skills (but hard!), but with my metal background I have quite a lot of difficulty with his timing.

For this reason, the added value is definately in the included cd, which not only sounds as a very good approximation of hendrix himself, but is recorded in a very transparent way, and with some solos on slow speed, which makes it much easier to learn hendrix by ear.
