Of all the Tube Screamer clone pedals out there, this one comes closest to my original 808.I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference if I couldn't see which one was connected.I'd definitely replace it if it were lost or stolen, just to keep from having to gig with my original.Other than the lack of a true bypass switch,I can't think of anything I would change.

Built like a tank.Small green metal casing, with metal input and output jacks.Overdrive,Tone and Balance(volume) controls.Battery or AC powered. The only thing I wish they had added would be a true bypass switch. One could easily be installed, though.
Maxon built the original 808 Tube Screamers for Ibanez. The tone of this pedal is similar.Great for Blues or Classic Rock tones.Nice midrange boost and solid bottom end. With single coil style guitars through a open back tube amp you get great blues tones. With humbucker equipped guitars through a tube head and closed back cabinet you can get authentic British Invasion crunch. It's got super-quiet FET switching and doesn't add too much hiss to your signal, especially for a distortion pedal.
It's about as simple to use as a pedal can be.With just a volume, tone and drive level, there really isn't much even a beginner couldn't understand. No matter where you set the levels you can get a usable tone.
This pedal could last a lifetime.I wouldn't hesitate to use it live.Maxon has been building effects for other companies for years, but has never marketed their pedals under their own name in the US until recently.
