A Passion Play

by Jethro Tull

(1973) Chrysalis

Description Jethro Tull's bold single-track concept album. A passion play is a play depicting the life, or parts of the life, of Jesus Christ. Tull's A Passion Play is the same concept only in place of Jesus, the play depicts a normal human.

One of the most lyrically and musically dense albums of all time. There are no 3 minute pop songs here. It is one long track, interrupted only by a parable of sorts. A Passion Play will keep some captivated through its entirity and will bore others out of their minds in two minutes. There have been few albums that can compare to this. Is this album pretintious, mabey. Is it, over-the-top, yes. Is that a good thing, that may be up to you to decide. In today's world of carefully crafted scientifically designed to please pop songs, it is odd to think that this album hit #1 when it was released. If you are tired of today three chord ballads and power chord rock mabey Jethro Tull's A Passion Play is the what you need.
