The album ventures into many blends of musical styles and is a real treat for guitar players.
It begins with Rays flamboyant country/bluegrass guitar licks on Squeeze the Weasel and is revisited on a Chet Atkins fave Main Street Breakdown. Untitled Island has a soft jazz and calypso sound that has saxophone and trumpet blended in nicely.
The biggest surprise on this package was hearing Deep Purples classic Wring That Neck. This was nicely done with a clean telecaster sound and a b bender in the solos that gave a great contrast to the infamous Blackmore rock stylings. Many aspects of technique, dynamics and melody are heard on the acoustical/electrical piece New Land Shining. This composition is a great piece for guitarist to learn and practice new tricks and ideas. It is loaded with phrasing that could become integrated into one's own playing.
A bonus plus on this recording is hearing pianist great Matt Rollings playing from Honky Tonk to Country stylings on this recording. This album is a great addition to anyones catalog and highly recommended.
