Probably the most important guitar record of all time. Even if you're not into this genre of music, it's still a lesson in technique and recording. The guitar tone and mix on this record has yet to be matched. Kudos as much to the engineer and producer as to Eddie and the boys.

This is one of the craziest things I've ever heard. The other day I was listening to Joe Perry, Steve Vai, Jimmy Page, etc. and I was thinking: "Well, Jesus Christ. I've always thought Eddie was the greatest guitar player ever, but I might just be biased and he might be overrated." I looked at some Eddie tabs and tried to play 'em and then listened to this cd. And believe me, when you listen to this you will get your head on straight about who is the best damn rock guitarist in the history of humankind. I just sat there listening to that F---ING AWESOME tone, and thought "F---! It sounds like there's a little bit of wah wah, compression, flanging, distortion, reverb, phasing, etc. etc. etc. all at once. What a tone! How the hell does he set up his amp?" But then I found out that he just used a Fender he modified at home and played it straight through a Marshall! Jeez! Not to mention the insane pop genius at work here on tunes like Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, Jamie's Cryin', and Feel Your Love Tonight. I'm The One is an insane jam as well. The solo on Ice Cream Man is nuts! The vocals are great, the drumming is sweet too. Roth sounds like a Beach Boy from hell on this CD and screams like a banshee as well. Alex Van Halen is just as good on the drums as Eddie is on the guitar, whipping out swing dancing rhythms, John Bonham rock and rollness and pop beats with the greatest of ease. Just buy the frickin CD already and then buy 1984.
