I actually got someone to get me this git, without ever having played or heard of it. I trusted a store in Singapore to make the right choice for me, and boy oh boy, was it a good buy!. Would probably move up to a Martin or a Taylor next (when hell freezes over) but till then, My Girl's Home...
Model Year: 2000
Price: $350.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Singapore
Features:
This piece is made in Indonesia, Mahogany top, non-cutaway dreadnought, but with a passive pickup system under the bridge, volume and tone only. The git looks bare, with very little decoration (I like!) or ornamentation. Fingerboard inlays are absolutely minimal, this one has them starting on 5 instead of 3... chrome tuners, wide fingerboard and extremely narrow frets. Easy to play, and sounds good.
Playability:
Adjustable truss rod I guess it will affect action which as of now is absolutely spot-on! The neck is slightly thicker than my earlier electro-coustic, but it helps rather than hinders my playing, with my ultra-large hands. I don't have many refernce points but it matches my buddy's Martin D-1 very well indeed... No flaws apart from a small chip on the laquer around the edge binding, I'll put it down to mis-handling.
Sound Quality:
A revelation! This guitar has a really good acoustic sound. The fact that it's electro-acoustic doesn't hinder its unplugged sound one bit. Chords are very definite and the treble notes do not lack definition, as is the case with dreadnoughts. The bass is pronounced without being boomy and overpowering. Single notes and powerchord playing really bring out the best of this git, It's just amazing. Open chords are a little ringing, but I guess once the strings age a bit, that'll be OK. Once connected to the amp, the pickup is amazingly loud. Bass notes have absolutely no loss, and the pickup is not tinny and weak like the earlier piece I had. It produces an acceptable acoustic sound through my Marshall, and through the hifi it sounds just amazing. However, due to its excellent definition, the lack of my playing skill quickly becomes apparent. Woulda given it a 6
Durability:
No clue yet, but really one heavy mother of a guitar. Surprising how it's heavy and loud at the same time...
