I got this amp from a friend who runs a studio. A guy had bought studio time from them and not paid, so they annexed his amp and guitar - a Yamaha Pacifica 312II. I got the lot for the cost of the amp new. Bonus. I don't think I was ready to spend this much on an amp yet, but the offer seemed to be too good to pass up, so I splurged. That said, after using it for a while it's money well spent, and it's really not what I'd call expensive, I just didn't have a lot of cash to throw around. I think I'd do it again too. I don't really have much to compare it to, except my crappy little Peavey Rage 158, which is in actual fact not that crappy. So I'm calling it very good. It ain't no head-n-stack, but it does the job good for me. Rockin' the world!

Features:
Pretty standard combo amp. Solid state (Valvestate), 2 footswitchable channels, 50W, portable. I play mainly rock and blues type stuff and it really does the job. It's a 50W, which I guess might be fine for smaller gigs, but it's great for me at home. I rarely turn it up past about 9o'clock, but I'd like to see what it can do. On those occasions when I have, the neighbours have complained and that can't be all bad. It sounds clean and it doesn't seem noisy at all when you crank it up a bit.

It has input (duh), series effects loop, pre-amp in and power amp out, footswitch and line out jacks, a channel switch on the panel if you don't like the footswitch, and also sports built in spring reverb. There are bass, mid and treble controls for the clean channel and on the boost channel, there are bass and treble controls and a contour control which provides very flexible mid control. A plus for those who might use it is the CD input on the back so you can jam along with your favourite CDs. I haven't used the feture yet, so I can't comment on it.
Sound Quality:
All my guitars go through this amp, even the acoustic. They are a PRS Std 22, an Epi Goldtop, the Yamaha and a Taylor Big Baby. (It's not an acoustic amplifier but at the volumes I generally use I don't get no feedback.) As I said, mainly blues and rock and it suits these styles very well indeed. The distortion sound is great. I prefer its sound to that of my BOSS DS-1, but I think the BD-2 pips it at the post, it's just creamier. The clean channel is very clean and warm, gives a lovely tone for jazz when I plug my Epi into it. My PRS practically screams if I turn the gain up real high, and I get a very similar sound to Santana out of it. The only amp I can really compare it to is my Rage 158, and there's quite simply no comparison. My (ex)teacher has a Marshall stack which I've played thru once or twice and I can't say I went back to the combo a disappointed axeman. It's very versatile, this thing...
Ease of Use:
Plug in, turn on, flip out. It's a combo amp for heaven's sake! How hard can it be to use? And I don't do much fiddling, I don't have the patience. Good all round on this front. Only drawback is if you find a really good sound you have to write down the settings or take a digital photo of the positions of the knobs. Major bummer... ;-)
Durability:
I've not used it live yet, but it seems pretty sturdy. I'd be concerned about the handling strap coming loose, but I'm paranoid about that kind of thing, I don't really think it's a legit concern. It's solid, that's for sure.

I also looked at the Fender stereo reverb models but since I don't intend to use this as a gigging amp, I found it to be a good price/performance deal. For small venue gigging, I would have split for the Fender.

I choose the overall "Excellent" rating because this amp meets all of my personal needs and expectations. I can't rate it in a gig situation because I haven't used it there, but I would certainly give it a try with real confidence. (Although I have a personal preferene for the Fender sound) HOWEVER, it meets MY lcurrent and projected needs 100%. Good Job Marshall!

This is a two channnel amp (solid state). The clean channel is really clean. Controls on it are gain, base, middle, and treble. The distortion channel create a nice distortion effect, not as nice as tube, but fairly close. Controls on the distortion channel are gain, countour, bass, treble, and volume. There is a single reverb control, Effects loop, line out, and foot pedal switch on the fron panel; and CD in on the rear. I picked this amp on price/performance and a fair degree of certainty that I would never use it in live performances. Using a Zoom 707 effects processor, it makes satisfying, but probably not commercial noises.
Sound Quality:
I use this with a standard Fender Fat Strat, playing mainly rock and blues. I would prefer a Fender stereo chorus amp, but the price was a bit beyone what I wanted to pay. At 50 watts, this amp provides quality sound at low and high volumes. When I can't crank it up, I can still get the buzz and growl with the 707 processor. There are no problems with noise, even with the Fender single coil pickups. Having not used this in a gig situation, I can say that I would be willing to try it, but not in a position to judge in that situation. In my bedroom, it rules!
Ease of Use:
The instructions show recommended settings for different types of music and pickups. Starting with these I developed my own preferences, as will others using this amp. The recommended settings seem to be a GOOD starting point. This amp produces a better sound in my home than many other lesser powered amps. If you have to crank it up to get distortion, it may not be for you, because it can really put out some volume.
Durability:
The construction is very heavy. I have abused it a little, and you can't tell. From previous heavy gigging experience, it appears that this little guy can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. I'd have no problem giggin in small venues with this guy on a regular basis. After all, it is a Marshall, and exhibits typical Marshall quality and durability.

Some 40-watts and a 100-watt.I chosed this one because it was cheep and I know that Marshall is best on this genre. I love Marshall!. I would definitly buy this one again!

The dsist is great, the best I've heard but the voulume could have been at a higer rate!

On the normal channel it has: Gain, Bass, Mid and Treble. On the Boost Channel it has: Gain (dist.), Bass, Contour, Treble and Volume. There is a knob for reverb which affects every channel. It has a switch to selct either normal or boost channel. I think it exact as powerful as it has to be, It could have been some more power but it'll be okay. I play in a garage band and I need pretty high volume becauseof the drummer. He is so hard with his drums! When you buy it new. You get a book with it with some great settings for Trash Metal, Clean Sound, Rock/Blues and Crunch Sound. That's all I know!
Sound Quality:
I have a Reno guitar, fender copy. Pretty Good! :) The amp is great for heavy metal, great sound. It's very good for classic clean songs too! Before this one I had a Fender amp. Pretty small. This one is rocking the other one out! If it was a competition which 10 was the best the this one would have got a 10 while my Fender gets an 1 :) It is noisy if you slap really hard on your e string. I get the feeling that it sounds better on high volumes and as said: THE DIST. IS GREAT!
Ease of Use:
You cannot save your setting digital, If you're going to save your setting you have to let the knobs be there they are know what I meen? It's not as har to get the great sound I use. I use the recomended crunch setting in the book wich follows. It's a bit harder to use than the Fender amp I hat before, BUT it's much bigger and better!
Durability:
I havent played live on a stage with it yet. It quite heavy, I have never needed to repair it!
