This is the best kept secret in handmade archtop guitars...and the best price! You can see this guitar & the other models at www.hollenbeckguitar.com
Price: $4200.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Bill Hollenbeck
Features:
This guitar (& all 7 of his different models) are handmade in Lincoln, Illinois. This model is a 17" hollowbody archtop, single cutaway with one Gibson Johnny Smith "floating" pickup with volume control. The body is made from sugar maple with maple flametop back & headstock. 24 k. gold plated machine heads & brass tail piece. This has his standard 5 piece neck.
Playability:
Very easy to play. Nice action--can be set to your preference. Neck feels great. He will make the neck to fit your hand size & preference. It is a 5 piece neck.
Sound Quality:
Excellent--can't say enough about it. This is the best sounding guitar I have ever owned/played!--that being Carvin, Gibson, Gretsch, Guild, Ibanez, Epiphone. Sounds good unplugged. Terrific sound plugged in-- full, fat & blended. Good sustain. Intonation is perfect & it nevers slips or goes out of tune regardless of how I bend the strings. I play it through a Peavy chorus amp & Digitech RP7 effects box. Whether with effects or without, it responds in excellance! This guitar is, of course, wonderful for jazz, but I play mostly blues/rock sounds/style & also acoustic sounds--which I used to get an acoustic for--now I don't have to switch gutars. This one does it all -from an amplified acoustic sound to hard, distortion.
Durability:
Excellent
