I looked at an Ibanez tube screamer, a few other Boss overdrive pedals, and a jimi hendrix octave fuzz, and i chose this one because, well...it sounds the best! i wish it had true bypass but its not the end of the world that it doesnt. if it was stolen i would more than likely get another one. so, if you want a great sounding overdrive pedal for blues and rock, get the boss OD-3
Model Year: 2004
Price: $90.00 Canadian
This is your basic overdrive pedal. It has volume, gain, and tone knobs. It's AC or battery powered
This is a great sounding overdrive pedal!! i played it next to an ibanez tube screamer that costed twice as much and liked this more. it has a very smooth sound, like a cranked tube amp. it keeps your guitars clean character and adds some extra sustain and a bit of gain. it works very well for blues or rock. wouldnt recommend it for metal though...
All you do is choose how much gain you want (i normally just keep it at full), set how much bite you want with the tone knob, and choose your volume. nothing to it!!
Has a metal casing, seems sturdy enough, i havent had it that long though, but i dont really see how you could break it.
Excellent unit. If I lost it i'd buy it again.
If you're looking for harsh distortion, this isn't the unit you want, but for overdrive this is fantastic.
Price: $59.00 (new)
Level dial, Tone dial and Drive dial, stomp toggle switch (on / off (bypass)).
9v battery powered, but can be AC powered as well.
Fender strat, Peavey classic 30.
I play mostly rock / pop, and I don't really use heavy distortion much, so this unit is ideal for me - it allows you to get really nice smooth overdrive. Sounds really natural.
I use it with a Peavey classic 30 and it sounds great - I can have it turned off and get a clean sound with the amp on normal, turn the OD-3 on set to slight drive to get a slight overdrive with the amp still on normal, turn the amp to lead for its overdrive or have them both on for heavy distortion.
Also acts as a bit of a compressor/limiter and can boost the signal.
Only 3 dials, and one foot switch, easy to use.
It's a great pedal, for what it cost, and what I want
from it. definately try one out to see if it suits you.

Simple three knob layout: Level, tone and Drive.
Level controls the overallvolume, tone controls tone
(obviously), and Drive is the amount of distorion
given. Is battery powered, with the option of an AC
adaptor (I use one with a daisy chain to my other
effects). Very simple to figure out, very easy to use.
I looked at this pedal and a couple of others, such as
the Boss OS-2 Overdrive/distortion, but I realised that
it was the overdrive sound I really came back to. With
the drive right down and the level up, this really kicks
in some sweet warm tones, with a smooth, slightly
overdriven sound that is great for a thick blues
sound. With the drive cranked you get full on
distortion, with loads of tone and depth still. This is a
great sounding little unit, which really suits my
playing style. Though I haven't found anything wrong
with this, I am giving it four stars as an idication that
I'm sure I could find a better sound if I was willing to
pay a whole lot more for real tube distortion.
It's a stomp box, it's very easy to use. Within seconds
I was coaxing great tones out of it for all sorts of
overdriven sounds.
It's a boss pedal; which means that it certainly isn't
likely to break any time soon.
This is a great pedal. However, if you play that heavy metal, hardrock CRAP, this pedal will do you little good. It is a warm, smooth overdrive, not screaming monkey distortion.
Great for blues, rock, classic rock.
If this pedal were stolen I would hire the CIA, FBI, NSA and everybody else with a gun to track down the thief, then I would hand him by his ears to a large tree and beat him to a pulp. I love this pedal!

BOSS OD-3
Three knobs. Volume, tone, and drive. Thats all the control you need for this baby.
Powered by 9V battery or AC adapter.
This pedal works well with any music that needs a nice overdrive. I use it for blues and classic rock/modern rock and it performs beautifully. You can back off the Drive all the way and crank the volume knob, and it gives a big volume boost and just a tad bit of dirt.
The sound is very smooth, warm, rich, and creamy. Just like a tube amp! I bought this pedal to add a nicer overdrive to my amp and it is great. Plug it straight in to a PA system and the sound will be amazing!!!
This is a very versatile pedal, and between your amp settings, guitar controls, and the OD-3 controls, you can get many different and unique tones. You might even be able to find "your" sound. This pedal has gotten me closer to my sound and tone, but I am still searching.
You got three knobs. My little brother could figure this sucker out in a minute. When I first got this pedal, I took it right out of the box, tweaked the knobs, and got a great sound. Very easy to use!!
This peadal is a BOSS. All BOSS pedals are "built like a tank." Completly encased in metal, it would take a herd of elephants to hurt this baby.
