This is my favorite of the "flavor of the month" Guitar Magazines. They are NOT a song transcription magazine, which to me is a relief. Magazines that focus on transcriptions tend to leave little room for other important topics, IMHO.
Anyway, there are monthly features on players of historical note, contemporary popular players, and even blurbs about little-known pickers. The coverage is weighted slightly towards rock, although many styles are explored every month. Usually, there is one extensive lesson (several pages) per magazine. Then, there are a series of shorter lessons towards the back.
I have issues dating back to the mid-70's. Occasionally, Guitar Player
tends to get in a rut where they focus too much on appeasing whatever mutation of rock is most popular at the moment. That's about my only knock on them.
