In Step

by Stevie Ray Vaughan

(1989) Sony #EK 65874

Personnel Stevie Ray Vaughan - Guitars & Vocals; Chris Layton - Drums; Tommy Shannon - Bass; Reese Wynans - Keyboards
Description This re-issue has 5 previously un-released bonus tracks as well. One of the bonus tracks is a live version of "Texas Flood". Also a live version of "Life without you" which to me is the ultimate form of irony.

I was overwhelmed by the production of this album as compared to (SRV) earlier albums. My personnal favourite of SRV is found on this album, "Riviera Paradise". And once again, Stevie's playing is flawless; of course, being backed up by a powerhouse rhythm section. I most definitely recommend this album for anyone of all musical genres. It has all of the elements you would expect from SRV; Blues, Rock, Jazz, etc.

This is a superb record. Stevie and the band have refined their recording process by isolating their amps in separate rooms, thus the sound is much much better. This is Stevie's first record after he sobered up, and his playing really shines. He is the greatest!

This is Stevie right after he cleaned up, not long before his death, and it is some of the very best playing of his too short life. It was playing like this that made Eric Clapton and others say of him, "He was just channeling the music from some great cosmic force -- it was so effortless. The ideas just flowed out and he gave them form on the spot." This and Family Style (with brother Jimmie) have some truly amazing tunes and playing.

Stevie was amazing. Life Without You (live version) damn near brought me to tears when he stopped and started talking to the crowd.

This is the definitive Stevie Ray Vaughan. The live version of Texas Flood is simply astonishing, as is, of course, everything found on this 2 disc re-issue. Talent like his comes truly once in a lifetime. Stevie is and will always be sorely missed.

Buy it, even if you had it before. This one has unreleased songs and live versions never heard before on earlier albums.
