I'd heard a couple of things by Cash and wanted more. I found it, yet again, at my public library. For those of you who live in reasonably big cities, I suggest highly checking if your public library has CDs or tapes for check-out--it's a nice way to hear a lot more music and it's easy on the wallet.

Anyway, I love this album. Cash's voice is strong, clear, and above all, wonderfully confident. His guitar playing is clean and provides a solid backing. He plays about half originals and half cover songs, from Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Kris Kristofferson, among others. The selections range from moving to rocking to humorous, and often at least two of those in the same song. Everything has a great outlaw country feel to it. I think Johnny Cash is one of those artists you can't really describe. He has a magic about him, something that brings all this outlaw cowboy stuff to life.

Overall, I recommend this highly. Makes me want to ride around Texas plains on a Tennessee stud and sleep under the stars...
