Whoa, holy crap, this is my first dream theater cd, and I plan on getting ALL OF THEM!! This band is absolutely awesome! I can definitely sense a Vai influence on Petrucci, especially in his lead guitar playing, which is a GOOD thing! EVERYBODY, I mean EVERYBODY should listen to this album!

Close your eyes and begin to relax. Take a deep breath, and let it out slowly. Concentrate on your breathing. With each breath you become more relaxed. Imagine a brilliant white light above you, focusing on this light as it flows through your body. Allow yourself to drift off as you fall deeper and deeper into a more relaxed state of mind. Now as I count backward from ten to one, you will fill more peaceful, and calm. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. You will enter a safe place where nothing can harm you. Five. Four. Three. Two. If at any time you need to came back, all you must do is open your eyes. One......

AWESOME!!

I first heard this from a real audio bootleg of the Metropolis 2000 Tour. But it didnt take me long to get hooked on the story line. Even though I didnt own a Dream Theater CD, every time I heard anything on the Radio from them I was never disappointed. One day I bought the CD. WAS I PLEASANTLY SUPRISED!!! There is not one bad song on this CD, the story line is intriguing, especially the end of the CD (which I won't reveal) John Petrucci's playing is stellar, if not jaw dropping. So if you liked The Wall, Operation:Mindcrime, or just intelligent progressive rock/metal I would definitely recommend this CD ( TWO THUMBS UP!WAY UP!)

DT is by far the most talented band in todays rock world, and with this release just seem to keep pushing the level of musicianship way up the ladder. The story line is complex, but awsome. I dont know if Progressive Rock/Metal will ever become mainstream, but as long as Bands like DT keep putting out CDs like Scenes from a Memory I'll be happy

DT is back to the style little closer to the "Images&Words" again. More complicated songs compared to the previous record. There are many clever "hooks" in this album and once again the songs sound better if you listen them couple of times. However i have two problems with this record: 1.There are some solos that i consider pointless 2.Some of the songs dont have as strong structure than the songs from their previous records. Still this IS a very good album from DT even though i like the older ones more.

It may take a few listens but this album is just amazing -- even more amazing is the performance of this live. It took some balls to make and release this album in todays music climate and it was worth it. Many memorable moments on this disk - reminiscent of Pink Floyd, Queen, LTE (liquid tension experiment jams).

If you like rock that thinks, GET THIS, COPY IT, STEAL IT. You may have to closely listen to this a few times to truly appreciate it but woah.

Without a doubt, these guys are starting to push way beyond the limits of traditional Prog Rock — I think this will be the one to finally establish them as one of the greatest Progressive bands of all time!  What else can one say but... [sound of jaw hitting the floor]?

Amazing album, must have taken Dreamtheater forever to make. Petrucci is awesome, and covers many styles of music in his songs and solos. The story is incredibly complex, and this album was not meant be played as background music. It will take a few good listens to really get it, so be warned
