Rating: This disk is a must for EJ fans and anyone wanting good rock guitar. Johnson is a master at synthesizing classic rock, country, and jazz guitar into a unique and compelling style. I was surprised to find out that EJ had it so "together" so far back; from the first note you know exactly who it is. Some of the songs sound a bit out of the ordinary for EJ such as "Showdown" (really corny) but almost everything stands up well after 20 years. The version of "Emerald Eyes" on SW, for example, sounds better than the one that appears on the 1986 album, Tones. |
