This is great little gadget which actually packs some nice features. Tascam's only mistake? They've discontinued it!! And haven't really replaced it with anything similar yet. It's technology is a bit out dated but I suspect used ones will hold their price for at least 4-5 years to come.
Model Year: 2005
Price: $199.00 (new)
Where Obtained: local audio store
Features:
Four-track stereo recorder with built-in effects, midi based rythm tracks, mp3 player. Fairly small size; can be held in the hand. Operates from batteries (six AA's, ouch!) or adapter. Uses removable CompactFlash memory cards (up to 256k size.)
Sound Quality:
Good, not execellent, but then it's a hand-held studio, not a multi-thousand-dollar production shop.
Ease of Use:
Fairly easy to use but it is rather full of features and the manual is a bit challenging in parts. There's definately a learning curve involved here but if you already know something about studio recording you'll probably pick this up quite quickly.
Durability:
So far, so good. I bought a hard-shell case for mine so it doesn't get knocked around much.

Good product. Glad I bought it.

Sound Quality:
Good overall sound quality considering its size and portability.
Ease of Use:
Fairly easy to use after a bit of trail and error. It can be a bit confusing at times. Beyond basic functions the manual is a joke.
Durability:
A very well made product. All plastic.
