I've had many effects. This and the indyguitarist.com PHAT-AXX are the best OD's out there in my opinion. Solid built with great tone, what else can you ask for.
Price: $89.00
Where Obtained: ebay
Features:
This is an AC powered unit that has a power built in, no wall wart. It has 4 controls like the original Chandler unit did. They are Volume, High, Low, Gain. It has a 12AX7 preamp tube in it. A heavy duty effect/bypass switch.
Sound Quality:
I use it with all my guitars, a Gibson and a Epiphone Les Paul, a Peavey Predator Strat, and my Tele Custom build. It works exceptional with all of them. I use the Tube Driver mostly doing blues, and rock cover tunes with my band. The gain is not harsh as with most tube driven pedals. It is smooth and controllable, with the gain less than 6. Over that, it gets real heavy but still harmonic, not mush or harsh. It's a quiet pedal for a pedal that adds gain. Eric Johnson and David Gilmour use the Chandler original units, this is the re-issue, and it will get you their tones.
Ease of Use:
Simple to use once you get the hang of the gain control and dialing in the high and low EQ. Great sound at most all settings.
Durability:
It has a heavy duty metal chassis and the switch is a very good one, metal. Jacks are solid. The wiring is good, solder joints are done well. You have to take the unit apart to get at the tube, but it assembles easy compared to most units, alot of units the screw holes don't line up good, not woth the Tube Driver, it's an easy re-assemble. A VERY ROAD WORTHY PEDAL.
