Once upon a time, buying your first electric guitar was a minefield.
Many was the beginner, uninitiated in the world of all things guitar, who was lured in by the siren song of a shiny-looking electric only to find they'd blown their pocket money on a GSO (Guitar Shaped Object) made from chipboard and broken dreams.
These days, of course, things are a little different. Sure, there are still an ungodly number of terrible guitars out there waiting to snare unwitting beginners, but that's far from the full picture. In fact, the bulk of the budget market is made up of incredibly well-built guitars that look, sound and play better that the beginner of 20 years ago would ever believe possible.
With so much choice on offer though, how are you supposed to know which are the best options? The answer is right here: we'll be running a poll to discover the very best budget guitars on the market in 2013, but first we want your nominations.
We're looking for guitars under £300 / $500 that guitarists strapped for cash could feasibly afford.
Any brand or style of electric guitar is welcome as long as it's under our price criteria. You can let us know which guitars you'd like to see included in the vote via Twitter, comments on Facebook or by emailing us at email@example.com.Read more about
