Weezer Out of Warped Tour

L.A. rockers will not headline traveling punk fest

Despite reports on the Warped Web site that Weezer were headlining this summer's Warped tour, the band announced on April 6th that it will not play the festival. Previous reports on the group's site said that they were playing "some" of the Warped dates.

According to the festival promoters, Weezer dropped out of the lineup, but the band has a different story to tell. Reps for Weezer say they were offered the Warped tour but never signed a contract or formally accepted the offer. Weezer expressed regret for the misinformation on their Web site saying, "The band apologizes for psyching anyone up inadvertently."

Weezer are spending the early part of this week at work on the video for their first single "Hash Pipe." The video will be directed by Marco Siega, and the single is already hitting the airwaves this week. Next up for Weezer is a tour of Japan through April, and they have lined up two dates in London for July. Dates for a North American summer tour are expected soon.

Meanwhile the Warped Tour will go on with plenty of punk rock acts to spare, including Pennywise, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rancid, Less than Jake and 311.
