When Clapton unplugged for MTV 20 years ago, he paved the way for an entire movement. Here we salutes the genre as we count down our favourite 'rock-gone-acoustic' performances

Now, there's the small matter of the rules. Our list features acoustic versions of electric songs: you won't find Wonderwall, Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life), Something In The Way or any other song whose original was recorded on acoustic. Likewise, these versions aren't allowed to make use of electric guitars – amplified acoustics are fine, as are acoustic-based effects. Got it? Then let's go...
