Benicio, CA (November 18, 2012) -- Dunlop has announced a limited edition line of pedals commemorating what would have been Jimi Hendrix's 70th birthday. The Jimi Hendrix 70th Anniversary Tribute Series includes a Cry Baby, Fuzz Face, Univibe, and Octavio. Here are the details from Dunlop's website, as well as a video demo featuring Eric Gales:
November 2012 marks Jimi Hendrix’s 70th birthday, and we’re celebrating it by releasing the limited edition Jimi Hendrix 70th Anniversary Tribute Series. It’s made up of the four effects that were crucial to Hendrix’s signal chain: Fuzz Face®, CryBaby®, Octavio® and Univibe®. Designed by the MXR team, the Fuzz Face, Octavio and Univibe come in Phase 90-sized housings with modern upgrades such as true bypass switching, bright LEDs and 9-volt power jacks. The Jimi Hendrix Signature Cry Baby comes in a slick gloss black finish and, along with the other three pedals, is adorned with art inspired by John Van Hamersveld’s classic poster from Hendrix’s 1968 Shrine Auditorium gig.
JMH1 Fuzz Face
The JimiHendrix™ 70th Anniversary Tribute Series Fuzz Face’s circuit is meticulously faithful to the very same Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face unit Hendrix employed in the late ’60s, but with slick modern appointments such as a status LED, true-bypass switching, a 9-volt power jack, and a much smaller Phase 90-sized enclosure.JH2 Cry Baby
The Jimi Hendrix™ 70th Anniversary Tribute Series Cry Baby® is crafted to deliver the same dynamic tonal sweep of Jimi’s original Italian-made Thomas Organ unit while also offering a 9-volt power jack, a limited edition gloss black finish and a tread bearing iconic Hendrix art from legendary rock artist John Van Hamersveld. By carefully emulating the throaty midrange and sweet treble response of the original, the 70th Anniversary Tribute Series Cry Baby provides a crucial sonic link to the Hendrix mojo.JHM3 Univibe
The thick wash of Univibe® that permeates the landmark Band of Gypsys album is undeniably some of the most transcendent tone ever recorded. With its phasey, chorusy, Leslie-sounding goodness, Jimi Hendrix was able to summon startlingly rich textures that sound as if you can actually spoon them out of the speakers. The Jimi Hendrix™ 70th Anniversary Tribute Series Univibe delivers these classic tones in all of their stunning analogglory, and at a fraction of the size of the vintage Shin-ei unit that Hendrix used in late ’69/’70.JHM2 Octavio
Sporting the exact same circuit found in Jimi’s original “cheese wedge” Octavio®, the Jimi Hendrix™ 70th Anniversary Tribute Series Octavio not only provides the classic “octave up” effect that Hendrix utilized so potently on tracks such as “One Rainy Wish,” and “Purple Haze,” but its amazingly touch-sensitive response will inspire you to venture into uncharted sonic territory. The 70th Anniversary Tribute Series Octavio is a modern rendering of a classic one-of-a-kind effect, featuring a status LED, true-bypass switching, a 9-volt power jack, and a much smaller Phase 90-sized enclosure.
