After injuring his shoulder in a bike-riding accident Saturday in New York, Beastie Boy
Mike D is under doctor's orders to "refrain from all physical activity" for a two-to-three-month rehabilitation period, causing the band to postpone the beginning of the Rhyme & Reason tour with Rage Against the Machine
. The tour, which would have kicked off Aug. 2 in Toronto, will be rescheduled, with ticket refund and exchange information to be announced.
Mike D hit a pothole while riding his bicycle home from rehearsals for the tour. He dislocated his shoulder, damaging his clavicle as well as several muscles, tendons and ligaments. After consulting at least three doctors and specialists, Mike D was advised to wait until his shoulder healed before starting the forty-five-day tour, the exertion of which could cause him to "risk permanently losing the use of the injured shoulder," according to a statement. He's to undergo surgery and further treatment this week.
"We know many will be disappointed," the Beastie Boys posted on their Web site. "Please understand the band is disappointed, too."
