This entire song was inspired by an open baritone tuning I
stumbled upon by accident [low to high: A,E,A,E,A,C#] one
fateful rainy day. As soon as I had discovered it the rain
stopped, the clouds broke and the sun beamed down for the
first time in a week (literally) so I began writing this
song right then and there. I am particularly proud of this
one since it was conceived in this way, but also because I
ended up writing the vocal melodies as well (which I hadn't
done before). It's long (clocks in at around 8:59), but it
rocks nonetheless!
The acoustic part is very freeform and open-feeling anyway,
but it became even moreso when I had to *redo* the entire
thing due to the string squeaks being unbearable (ie., there
was no click or hi-hat to follow). Oh well, it's only rock
& roll--ain't purdy or perfect, that's for sure. As with all
our tunes, my rhythm tracks are panned hard right, and the
other guitarist's (Chris) are hard left. He takes the first
solo and mine is the one with the generic slide bumblings (I
did have a killer Slide+Ebow thing in mind, but it sucked in
relation to the "big picture" so I trashed it and improvised
this one).
