Born 1949; given first guitar in 1965 (self-taught from book); 1st gig 1966 (washtub bass in jug band); 66-69, many folk club gigs, on guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, washboard or fiddle; 1st electric guitar 1969; 1st rock band, 1970; 1st rock gig (with 2nd rock band) 1972 (people danced! unforgettable thrill...); 73-76 folk-jazz group (Django plus comedy numbers); 77-81 jump-jive-R&B band; 1980, began researching music theory and history(still going...); 81-88, various rock bands; 1988, got more seriously into be-bop and modern jazz (on guitar & bass), in workshops and summer schools; 1990s, blues band and various jazz and rock groups.
Now...
Guitar in blues band; guitar/keyboards/vocals in rock band; bass guitar in soul/funk band, and in 2 or 3 jazz groups. Still amateur. (Latin: amator," lover") Professionally, I have been an illustrator and animator for 20 years; currently unemployed, I'm re-training as web designer and music teacher.
