Turnarounds.

I've never really known what people mean by "the turnaround." My impressions are that its something to do with the last part of a progression, for example the 12 bar blues... but I don't know.

I feel like I should know by now...

Can someone shed some light??

Cheers
Mark..

Favorite turnaround? That really would depend on the content of the tune. There are two types of turnarounds: A turnaround to the "I" chord, or the turnaround to the "ii" chord. I really don't have a favorite because there are so many if you add the chord alterations or the chord quality or substitution rules you'll end up with a chinese restaurant menu full of turnarounds! Why play just one?

A turnaround to the "I" chord can be:
I-vi-ii-V can turn into I-vi7-ii7-V or iii-vi-ii-V
or iiidim, vidim, iidim, Vdim. etc etc.
When playing in a band situation, remember you have a bassist and possibly a keyboardist which can definitely alter what turnaround you play.
